Apparently with the endless supply of cyberspace it seems we finally have ’way more’ room than we have news that’s fit to print. How else can you explain coverage of the ramblings of a has-been celebrity drugy in our news. But wait there are many folks who fit that bill.

Is it a cautionary tale? Do we talk about zonked stars beause we care about them? Or do we want to remind ourselves and our children that money, lots and lots of money, can’t make you happy. Do we feel sorry for folks who can cry and it actually gets them out of jail? Are we mesmerized to watch the footage of these tortured souls as they wander in and out of shop lifting, battering and drunk driving charges all to be on the street the next day? Okay, money doesn’t make you happy, but it sure bribes a judge or two.

All this to say, there is news that’s fit to print. So let’s do this folks. Let’s remind everyone we know what is important.

The world needs to pay attention to the brave people of northern Africa, Egypt and the middle east. We need to show solidarity for their courage, their sacrifice and their sheer guts. We need to pray for their safety, for hope for the future and for God to send angels down to intervene.

We have a crisis right in Washington with a shut-down on the horizon. We need to maintain peace and order when we exercise our right to demonstrate. The issues around collective bargaining, manufacturering jobs, mining, schools. This is the real hard stuff.

Maybe that’s why TV has so much fluff on it. Perhaps the networks, CNN, Fox are trying to distract us from the real issues the world is facing. Do they think we need a diversion, another royal wedding, another Hollywood divorce? As a Baby Boomer I am here to tell you bring on the hard stuff. And tell the momma’s boys and whinning girls to stay home until they figure out how to do the hard work it takes to get sober and join the rest of us out here wining democracy one day at a time.
